Internal Medicine places strong emphasis on research that advances the School’s mission of leading in the creation and advancement of health equity. Researchers in the department are involved in basic, translational and clinical research related to physiology, therapeutics and disease pathogenesis. Our researchers pay particular attention to understand the impact of social determinants of health on the health outcomes of patients we care for.

Internal Medicine researchers collaborate across the institution, city, state, nation and world to address fundamental problems in human disease. Their collaborative efforts enable them to take mechanistic discoveries to preclinical testing and first-in-man clinical trials.
