SHWC Services for Full-Time Students
SHWC provides a range of high quality and confidential services to full-time students. All students are required to pay the mandatory health fee. Students may choose to enroll in the Morehouse School of Medicine (MSM) Student Insurance Plan or their own insurance plan. Services include primary health care, mental health and wellness services. The clinical team includes physicians, nurse practitioners, registered nurses, and mental health providers (psychiatrists, psychologists, licensed clinical social workers and professionals-in-training).

Primary Care Services
Primary care services include preventive visits, women’s health care, management of ongoing health conditions, treatment for illnesses and injuries and health education. Services are provided by physicians, nurse practitioners and registered nurses.

Behavioral Health Services
Students seeking mental health services from SHWC Behavioral Health Services (link to page) undergo an initial assessment followed by the development of an individualized care plan. The individualized care plan may include individual, group therapy, brief psychotherapy or assisted on-line therapy. SHWC Behavioral Health Services team include psychiatrists, psychologists, licensed clinical social workers and professionals in-training.

Immunizations and Vaccines
At SHWC, students may receive vaccines such as Influenza, HPV and Hepatitis B, including those required for travel abroad. Students may take part in SHWC’s annual Influenza and HPV drives. While the administration of vaccines are of no cost to students, the vaccines themselves will be billed to insurance. Please verify coverage of vaccines received at SHWC with your insurance carrier.

Wellness Services
At SHWC, we encourage students to Empower, Believe, Become. SHWC inspires students to empower themselves by being proactive in their health and wellbeing, to believe in their capabilities academically and personally and to become all that they desire to be. SHWC Wellness Services provide health education and health promotion programs to all students. Areas of interest to students include stress management, alcohol, drugs, nutrition, healthy relationships and sex, physical and mental wellness.

Treatment for Blood/Body Fluid Exposures
The Student Health and Wellness Center (SHWC) provides training in the prevention and transmission of blood borne pathogen or bodily fluids annually during orientations and new on-boarding of student programs, according to CDC guidelines and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) training requirements.
